How to Transition Your Landscape from Spring to Summer

Swap spent spring color, adjust irrigation, and raise mowing heights before heat stress hits.

Late spring is when landscapes shift from cleanup mode to endurance mode. Remove spent bulbs’ messy foliage only after it yellows, swap cool-season annuals for heat-tolerant color, and check mulch depth before summer weeds germinate.

Irrigation schedules should change with temperature and rainfall. Mowing heights often need to rise so turf shades its own roots. Scout for early pests while populations are still manageable.

A short transition visit from a maintenance crew can prevent the mid-July look of crispy edges and empty beds that were beautiful in April.
