Daylilies earn their reputation as tough perennials. They handle heat, a range of soils, and roadside-like conditions better than many showier plants. Each bloom lasts a day, but scapes keep coming on modern reblooming types.
Give them sun for best flowering, water during establishment, and deadhead spent blooms if you want a tidier look. Divide crowded clumps to restore flowering.
In deer country, daylilies can be browse magnets — pair them with less tasty neighbors or protection if pressure is high.
