Choose walkway materials based on traffic, maintenance, and how formal you want the garden to feel.
A good pathway should move people comfortably and look intentional — not like an afterthought cut through the lawn.
Gravel is affordable and informal, but needs edging and occasional top-ups. Concrete or clay pavers handle daily traffic well and suit most homes. Flagstone feels natural in garden settings, though joints and leveling take more care.
Whatever you choose, plan width for two people where it matters, keep grades gentle, and light steps or turns for evening use. The best path is the one people actually use instead of cutting across the grass.
