Thick leaf mats smother grass. Blow, mulch-mow, or haul — but don’t ignore leaves until spring.
Leaves are free mulch in beds when used thoughtfully, and a turf killer when they sit in thick wet layers on lawns. Mulching mowers can process light falls into the canopy; heavy drops need blowing, raking, or professional cleanup.
Choose blower power for lot size, and be considerate of noise ordinances and neighbors. Direct leaves into beds or collection piles instead of into the street where they clog drains.
Regular fall cleanup is one of the highest-value maintenance tasks for lawn health — and one of the easiest to outsource when schedules get busy.
